Are you looking for a refreshing and flavourful dish to enjoy during the warm summer months? Let me introduce you to one of my all-time favourite salads: burrata with strawberries and peaches.
This salad is not just visually stunning, but it’s also a delightful combination of creamy, sweet, and tangy flavours. It’s perfect for a light lunch, a starter at a dinner party, or even a picnic in the park.
Burrata, with its creamy interior and delicate outer layer, pairs wonderfully with the sweetness of ripe peaches and strawberries. The addition of juicy tomatoes adds a hint of acidity that balances the dish perfectly. To top it all off, I drizzle a homemade parsley oil over the salad. The fresh parsley, lemon zest, and olive oil blend together to create a bright, herbaceous dressing that ties all the flavours together.
What I love most about this recipe is how simple it is to prepare. With just a few high-quality ingredients, you can create a dish that looks gourmet and tastes incredible. Plus, it’s a great way to showcase the best produce of the season.
Burrata with Strawberries and Peaches Salad: Ingredients
To make this recipe you will need just six ingredients. It’s not quantity that makes this dish stand out but the ingredient’s quality.
- Burrata is a fresh Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream. Its outer shell is solid mozzarella, while the inside contains stracciatella and cream, giving it an incredibly creamy and soft texture. Burrata adds a rich, luxurious creaminess to the salad, balancing the sweetness of the fruit with its mild, milky flavour.
- Tomatoes bring a juicy, slightly acidic component to the salad. Their natural sweetness and tanginess provide a perfect counterbalance to the creamy burrata and sweet fruits.
- Peaches add a burst of sweetness and a slightly tart flavour. Their juicy, succulent texture pairs beautifully with the creamy burrata and adds a summery freshness to the dish.
- Strawberries contribute a sweet and slightly tart flavour, which complements the peaches and tomatoes.
- Fresh parsley gives the oil a bright flavour that lifts the entire dish. It adds a touch of subtle bitterness that balances the sweetness of the fruits and the richness of the burrata.
- Lemon zest adds a burst of citrusy freshness and a fragrant aroma. It provides a tangy note that complements the sweet and creamy elements of the salad, while also enhancing the parsley oil’s flavour.
- Olive oil is the base for the parsley oil, bringing a smooth, slightly fruity richness to the dish.
- Salt and pepper are essential for seasoning and enhancing the flavours of the entire salad.
Burrata with Strawberries and Peaches Salad: Recipe Substitutions
If you need to tweak the recipe based on what you have on hand or personal preferences, don’t worry! Here are some simple substitutions that will keep the flavours vibrant and delicious while adjusting to your taste.
- Cheese: If you can’t find burrata, fresh mozzarella or even creamy ricotta can be a good substitute. These cheeses won’t have the same creamy centre as burrata but will still offer a delightful texture and flavour.
- Fruit: Feel free to experiment with other fruits if strawberries and peaches are not available. Raspberries, nectarines, or even figs can add a unique twist to this salad.
- Herbs: While parsley is used for the oil in this recipe, you could switch it up with basil or mint for a different herbal note that complements the fruit and cheese beautifully.
- Tomatoes: Heirloom tomatoes are fantastic for their colour and flavour, but cherry tomatoes or any ripe, juicy tomatoes will work just as well. Also, don’t be afraid to use a variety of different types of tomatoes, colours sizes.
